Wuchopperen Health Service Limited is a community controlled organisation delivering holistic primary and social health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Cairns and surrounding districts of Atherton and the Tablelands area. It is a not-for-profit company whose services are funded through grant funding and Medical Benefits income.

Purpose of position

This position has been created under the New Directions Mothers and Babies Services initiative.
New Directions Mothers and Babies Services will provide Indigenous mothers, babies and children with health care and early learning support during the antenatal phase, through childbirth and until their child reaches eight.

Essential Requirements:

• The Women’s Health Worker is an Identified position. It is a genuine occupational requirement that an Identified position be filled by an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person, as permitted by and arguable under Section 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).
• Please provide one (Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander) Referee who can confirm that you are of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander decent, you identify as an Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander person and an Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander community accepts you as such.
• Completed Certificate IV in Primary Health Care or equivalent qualification, and relevant industry experience of three years.
• Possession of a current driver’s licence.
• It is a condition of employment that all employees are holders of current and valid “blue card” Working with Children Check. If you are not already the holder of a blue card, you will be required to submit a blue card application on your first day of employment – that is at your cost. Employment cannot continue where your blue card application is not approved, withdrawn or your blue card is disqualified.
• Commitment to work within the principles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community control including a willingness to develop the leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
• Participate in organisational and community activities to advance the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
